What Is a Subbase Aggregate?

For those unfamiliar, a subbase is a type of aggregate that forms a solid base layer that concrete applications can be laid on top of. Extremely resilient, it’s typically used for projects that will have a significant weight placed on it when in use. For instance, it’s common in the construction of roads, pavements, patios and more. 

There are two main types of subbase aggregate. These are:

Type 1 – primarily used when building highways, footpaths, car parks and hard standing areas.    

Type 2 – uses a finer material than type 1, and is often used for the construction of driveways, patios and to fill in potholes.
